Meghan Markle's Educational Background: Everything You Need To Know

Before she married Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was a Hollywood actress with significant achievements under her belt. Her educational background proves that she is just as highly educated and as highly intelligent as any other member of the royal family.

Meghan Markle was born and raised in Los Angeles. Her mother, Doria Ragland, was a yoga instructor and social worker, while her father, Thomas Markle Sr., was a lighting director in Hollywood. When her parents got divorced when she was only six, Meghan Markle continued to live with her mother while her father supported her education.

Despite the challenges in her family, Meghan Markle made it a point to finish her education. Luckily, her parents managed to send her to various private schools from pre-school to college despite their difficult financial situation. When her father Thomas won $750,000 on a lottery in 1990, he, reportedly, saved part of his winnings so he could pay for Meghan’s education.

As a teenager, she attended the Immaculate Heart High School, a private Catholic all-girls school in Los Angeles. When Meghan Markle confirmed her engagement to Prince Harry in late 2015, the school publicly congratulated the would-be Duchess on her engagement. Meghan Markle also attended Northwestern University after graduating from Immaculate Heart. Northwestern University is one of the most prestigious universities in the country and is known to produce some of the brightest graduates in America.

Meghan took a double major in International Studies in Communications during her tenure in the private research university. While studying at Northwestern University, she interned at the American Embassy in Buenos Aires, where she learned a lot about international relations. During her junior year, the university also sent her as an exchange student in Madrid, where she stayed for one semester.
