A comment that Prince William made about Meghan Markle long ago, reportedly, triggered his feud with Prince Harry. Prince Harry has carried his resentment towards his brother since then, affecting their relationship.
According to royal commentator Angela Mollard, Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud started when the younger royal told them that he wanted to marry Meghan. At the time, Prince Harry had only known Meghan for less than a couple of years. So, Prince William was worried his brother might regret his decision in the future.
In a recent interview, Prince Harry admitted that he and Prince William are, currently, “on different paths.” He also admitted that while they have “good days,” the “bad days” are still there.
Speaking on the ROYALS podcast, Mollard shared her theory on what might have happened between the two brothers. “So I think it’s pretty obvious what happened, William who spent a long time deciding that he was going to marry Kate because he knew how important it is to this situation and to his concept of duty,” she said.
When Prince Harry told Prince William that he wanted to marry Meghan Markle, Prince William reportedly asked his brother how sure he was of his decision. “I think what’s really interesting is probably what he did say to Harry was something along the lines of ‘are you sure?’,” Mollard said.
Mollard explained that it was only reasonable for Prince William to ask his brother that question because he knew he had only met Meghan Markle. Aside from the fact that theirs was a whirlwind romance, Meghan was also American. Prince William knew there would be lots of issues and pressures in their marriage.
“It was not unreasonable for William to say to Harry, ‘have you thought about this?’ ‘Should we wait longer?’” Mollard said. “Clearly what’s happened is Harry, in the same way that he is quite reactive with the press and quite reactive in certain situations, was probably very reactive to William,” she added.
Royal fans know it took years for Prince William to decide to marry Kate Middleton. For royal experts, the Duke of Cambridge only had the best intentions when he asked Prince Harry to reconsider his decision to marry Meghan because he only wanted the best for him. “Instead of seeing it as a well-meaning and caring enquiry, they’ve both obviously got their backs up and now there’s this friction between them,” said Mollard.
