Conceived in the sterile environment that is the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey, England, the MP4-12C was to deliver the promise of a perfect supercar to live with day to day.

Advanced in every parameter, the MP4-12C sports extensive carbon fiber pieces like the groundbreaking Carbon MonoCell tub. Its high-performance 646 hp 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 engine still achieves a CO2 emissions rating of just 279 g/km. Featuring an innovative suspension system, the double wishbone set-up forgoes a front stabilizer bar and is substituted with a computer controlled hydraulic stabilizer instead.

With all this technology neatly packaged in a highly functional and minimalistic design, McLaren established a signature design language that places emphasis on simplicity and rational styling.

Not so fast! Following a year after the coupe's debut, McLaren has just released its straight filthy, sexy MP4-12C Spider. Who knew that a retractable roof could transform the character of a vehicle so completely?

Featured an all new color, the MP4-12C Spider flaunts its lines in Volcano Red like its wearing a little red dress. Dropping its top in a matter of seconds, the MP4-12C provides a new and exciting experience without losing any of the performance.

Tipping the scales at just 3,033 lbs., the 616 hp twin-turbo V8 engine propels the roadster from 0-100km/h (62 mph) in a standard coupe-identical 3.1 seconds, while acceleration to 100 mph takes 6.1 seconds, only 0.1 seconds slower than the coupe. Top speed displays a rather negligible loss as well, dropping from 207 mph to 204 mph.

Distinct differences between the coupe and drop top lies strictly on the roof. The MP4-12C Spider will feature a rear window that can be raised or lowered and a Roll Over Protection System.

Priced at $265,750, expect the official release of the MP4-12C roadster to be some time around December or January 2013. Meanwhile, visit the MP4-12C configurator to build a Spider of your own.
