Manchester United knew coming into this season that there would be expected periods of stagnancy due to the fact that a new regime was in charge at Old Trafford after long-time coach Sir Alex Ferguson stepped away at the conclusion of the 2012-2013 campaign. Though Man U brought home another Premier League title last season, welcoming in David Moyes as new head coach would include many highs but some lows as well. While the Red Devils did display the ability to play on the big stage once again early this season in a 0-0 with Jose Mourinho's Chelsea club, fans of the Old Trafford team were left sickened at the team's recent 4-1 loss to rival Manchester City.
Looking to put the poor display behind them, Man U will now enter another 2013 Capital One Cup match with Liverpool next on the fixture schedule. Set to host their Premier League rivals at Old Trafford, Manchester United hopes to reinvigorate an offense that was only able to record one goal in the recent Manchester Derby loss. United will also have the task of slowing a Liverpool offense that will once again have the services of Luis Suarez since the scorer's 10-match ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic came to an end following Liverpool's recent loss to Southampton.
"It has been a really difficult time for him not playing games," Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said regarding the star striker. "How he has prepared himself over the last number of weeks has been fantastic. He's really chomping at the bit to help the team. Everyone knows the depth of his quality and his attitude. Once he gets back on the field again he will show what he has shown since he's been here."
In 5 Capital One Cup appearances for Suarez, the 26-year-old has recorded 4 goals for the current fifth place Premier League squad. With Liverpool coming off a loss that showed their inability to get the offense going and Man U entering with the same predicament, expect this match to be a tight one just like the September 1 showdown in Premier League play was.
Thanks to a goal from Daniel Sturridge at the four-minute mark, Liverpool was able to walk away with an early-season victory. With Luis Suarez back in uniform, perhaps The Reds will take another from first-year coach David Moyes and his Manchester United squad.
