Currently sitting ninth in the Barclays Premier League, Manchester United has not established themselves as the competitive team they expected to be heading into the 2013-2014 season. A year removed from claiming another league championship, the Red Devils knew life at Old Trafford would be a bit different following the retirement of head coach Sir Alex Ferguson after 26 seasons. Hiring former Everton boss David Moyes to take the place of the legendary soccer leader was undoubtedly the right decision but even with a high level of player talent coming from the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, the Red Devils have yet to make a serious push toward the top of the twenty-team league.
Earning 6 wins and 4 draws in 15 Premier League contests, Manchester United is still set on completing a strong finish this season even though they continue to experience their fair share of ups and downs. Along with maintaining a consistent approach to each and every match, multiple reports indicate that David Moyes is highly interested in adding fresh talent to the roster during the January transfer period. Looking to upgrade the midfield position for the final stretch of the league campaign, Moyes and company appear ready to reach from the Bundesliga pot in Germany.
During a recent Borussia Dortmund victory over Napoli in the UEFA Champions League, Man U assistants Jimmy Lumsden and Steve Round kept a close watch on Marco Reus since he sits as the top target of David Moyes, according to Bleacher Report. Red Devils midfielder Michael Carrick continues to battle injury and although Moyes did address the position with the signing of Marouane Fellaini during the summer transfer window, Fellaini is still a bit off as he's not quite acclimated to his new home at Old Trafford after spending the previous six seasons with Everton. Reus notched a goal at the 10-minute mark of Dortmund's 3-1 win over Napoli, adding a heightened level of desire to those at Old Trafford.
In 13 Bundesliga appearances with Germany's Borussia Dortmund this season, Marco Reus has played well in multiple areas. Adding seven goals has been a nice piece of his game but the five assists also stand out as an attractive number. The 24-year-old Germany native is one of the most consistent players at the midfield position and if David Moyes is able to reel him in during the signing window, Man U will certainly receive the position upgrade the organization has been coveting for some time.
