English Premier League affiliate Chelsea has been linked to a possible attempt at landing Manchester United star Wayne Rooney and while multiple reports indicate an offer has been submitted to Old Trafford, there is no guarantee the forward will depart the Premier League title holders.

According to ESPN FC, Chelsea has in fact made a significant financial offer to Man U for the services of the 27-year-old. With rumors circulating that players such as Juan Mata and David Luiz could be included in a possible transfer, Chelsea indicated in a statement that no additional players are involved in any talks.
Chelsea football club can confirm that yesterday it made a written offer to Manchester United for the transfer of Wayne Rooney.
Although the terms of the offer are confidential, for avoidance of doubt and contrary to what is apparently being briefed to the Press in Sydney, the proposed purchase does not include the transfer or loan of any players from Chelsea to Manchester United.
As Daily Nation indicated shortly an offer of £10 million was tabled, Manchester United turned down the transfer proposal since the club has repeatedly noted that Wayne Rooney is not for sale.

Spending each of the last 9 seasons at Old Trafford, Rooney has apparently become unhappy with his current situation due to the fact that first-year head coach David Moyes may favor Robin van Persie at the striker position, putting Rooney in somewhat of a back-up role.
"Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him," Moyes said recently. "I want as many options as possible."
Rooney also feels that he has nothing left to prove with Manchester United as the superstar guided the club to 5 Premier League titles, a FIFA Club World Cup title and the 2007-2008 UEFA Champions League crown, all since coming over from Everton after the 2004 campaign.

Being that Rooney's contract is up in 2 seasons, Man U executive vice chairman Ed Woodward told BBC Sport that he won't be afraid to let the contract wind down to completion, regardless of the player's feelings toward the franchise.
"There are no contract renewals that are being discussed," Woodward said. "I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary. Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not."
With plenty of time remaining in the 2013 transfer window, expect Manchester United to remain a major focus in possible transfer rumors, especially with big-name players such as Wayne Rooney in the fold.
