Manchester United continues to be a hot club when it comes to transfer rumors and while the team is set on upgrading its roster since the recent hiring of manager David Moyes, the defending Premier League champions may soon say goodbye to a seven-year team member.

With news that Man U is actively pursuing Everton's Leighton Baines, The Belfast Telegraph reports that Patrice Evra may be heading back to Monaco, a club he played for prior to his arrival at Old Trafford in 2006. Evra will be intrigued by the possibility of a return to the Ligue 1 squad especially if Manchester United signs Baines because there is a strong chance that he'll be relegated to the bench.

While United does possess the finances to bring in the dynamic left back, ESPN FC's Kevin Palmer noted that the deal may not happen unless Man U and Everton can come to an agreement on payment terms and that Evra will only be sanctioned to move if the deal for Baines is finalized.

United are expected to improve on their initial £10 million offer as they look to sign Baines in the coming days, but will not meet the current asking price being proposed by Everton - believed to be around £20 million.

Meanwhile, Evra's move to Monaco will only be sanctioned if the deal for Baines is concluded, with United eager to have a signing in place before Moyes faces the media for the first time as United manager on July 5.

Patrice Evra has been crucial to the success of Manchester United over the last 7 seasons. Guiding the English club to 5 titles and a Champions League crown while at Old Trafford, Evra has certainly been an added asset. At the age of 32, however, it won't surprise many that the club would like to get younger at the left back position, a major reason why the Englishman Baines becomes a target.

Spending the last 6 seasons with Everton, the 28-year-old Baines has been a tremendous player on both sides of the ball. Recording 16 goals in 199 appearances, Baines was also the Premier League's highest assisting defender during the 2010-2011 season. A member of the English national team as well, Leighton Baines would certainly fit with a Manchester club looking to begin a new legacy since the recent retirement of head coach Alex Ferguson.

Though it's never easy to leave one team after an extended period of success, a move back to AS Monaco for the upcoming season may be perfect for Evra since he enjoyed great individual success with the club from 2002 through 2006.
