The 2013 summer transfer window officially closes on September 2 and while premier names including Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez and Luka Modric continue to make headlines, there are loads of other moves that could potentially shake up the 2013-2014 soccer season if finalized. David Moyes and Manchester United have certainly probed the availability of certain players and while it has been a relatively quiet window at Old Trafford, recent news indicates that a fan-favorite could depart the Red Devils.
According to multiple sources, Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez is being pursued by Tottenham and the fact that previous reports indicated that the scorer would remain at Old Trafford, the Spurs are still interesting since they expect premier player Gareth Bale to leave for Real Madrid. Though it is surely flattering to be sought after by other clubs across the world, the 25-year-old has said in the past that he doesn't prioritize the financial aspect of soccer while indicating that a major goal of his was to earn a regular spot on the Man U first team.
"I had the opportunity to talk to the sporting director but Javier wants to consolidate himself in Manchester," Chicharito's agent Eduardo Hernandez said to Daily Mail recently. Manchester United is his challenge. It has nothing to do with money. He wants to play and get a starting spot at United. He knows that he is in a very competitive team and that he must fight every day for his place, from the dressing room to the training field. But he is not afraid. He told me he is more motivated than ever."
While Hernandez previously said he'd stay with Manchester United, Mirror Football indicates that Tottenham and manager Andres Villas-Boas are making a serious move to reel in the Mexican superstar. Willing to pay a reported 15 million pounds, Man U has already been approached by officials at White Hart Lane about completing the deal.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is making a shock move for Manchester United's Mexican goal machine Javier Hernandez - but will have to pay £15 million.
Big-spending Spurs have approached the Premier League champions about the little striker, who seemingly cannot get close to winning a regular spot in manager David Moyes' No.1 side.
Villas-Boas believes Hernandez would be able to fill the void expected to be left by Gareth Bale and as someone who could turn into a 'finisher' for Tottenham, Chicharito might just be the perfect fit at White Hart Lane.
In 36 contests season for Man U last season, the Mexican national star notched 18 goals although he never solidified a consistent role with the first team. Now that Tottenham appears to be a legitimate suitor, Javier Hernandez may be close to landing his highly-coveted starting gig.
