While Manchester United continues its solid play in both the Barclays Premier League and UEFA Champions League, reports around Old Trafford indicate that the club will be looking to improve during the upcoming January transfer window. Every club across the international spectrum of soccer uses the multiple transfer periods each year to build up their respective teams and this year has proven to be no different. With former Tottenham star Gareth Bale signing a record deal with Real Madrid over the summer and Mesut Ozil inking a comfortable deal with the Arsenal Gunners, fans everywhere are once again interested in what the 2013-2014 winter window will bring.
Though Man U has moved up to fifth in the BPL standing, the Red Devils remain poised on recapturing another league championship after claiming the title a year ago. Currently sitting just five points back of first place Arsenal, Man U and head coach David Moyes are reportedly interested in bringing in one of the top midfielders in the game. With strong offense continuing to come from Man U greats Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, first-year head coach David Moyes has his sights set on building up the roster, even if it means dipping into the Spanish Primera League to do so.
According to ESPN UK, Moyes could make a move for Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta when the period opens in January. The 29-year-old - who has a contract with the La Liga giants until 2015 - has reportedly grown unhappy with the way his club has handled his desire for a new deal and it is because of his unrest at Camp Nou that Moyes and company hope to pounce on his potential availability. Spending the last decade-plus with Barcelona, Iniesta has grown into one of the best midfielders on multiple levels.
Serving as a regular for 22-time La Liga champion Barca, Iniesta has recorded 30 goals in well over 300 matches while also being considered one of the most creative players at his position. In addition to his success in Spain, the Fuentealbilla native has been a key component to the success of the Spanish National Team, even scoring the game-winning goal in extra time to help Spain capture the 2010 World Cup in South Africa over the Netherlands.
There is still plenty of soccer to be played around the globe and with Manchester United preparing for another tough battle in the 20-team Premier League, expect David Moyes and the Old Trafford higher-ups to keep a close watch on Andres Iniesta with January creeping closer.
