A man on a violent spree reportedly killed his wife and son with a machete and dismembered their bodies before proceeding to attack six other bystanders on the street near their home at the Isiofumini Isieke Community in Ebonyi, Nigeria on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
Kenneth Nwoha, a middle-aged man, has been accused of killing his wife, Mercy Nwoha, and their six-year-old son, Samson, with a machete and mangling their bodies, shortly after waking up on Wednesday morning, Oct. 6.
After knifing his wife and son to death, Nwoha reportedly walked out onto the street holding his machete and proceeded to attack six other people including a seven-year-old boy and a sixty-year-old man, Vanguard reported.
The officers suspect that the attack was due to a mental breakdown that the accused suffered. Now in police custody, Nwoha is undergoing a medical check-up to ascertain his mental state, police spokesperson Loveth Odah said.
Nwoha was reportedly actively mauling victims when the law enforcement arrived at the scene and arrested him, according to The Street Journal.
Odah added that the six victims who were attacked on the street were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The six bystander victims are reportedly are now in stable condition, while the remains of Mercy and Samson have been surrendered to the public mortuary.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a man named Hanumegowda, 38, reportedly killed his 34-year-old wife Parvathi with a machete, walked into the police station with the murder weapon, and surrendered before the police in early 2020, the Deccan Herald reported.
The incident reportedly happened in their farmland in Aralikatte village in Magadi taluk of Ramanagar district, Karnataka, India in January 2020.
Hanumegowda reportedly suspected Parvathi’s infidelity and fought with her frequently. On the day of the murder, an argument broke out between the two as they engaged in farming activities on their land. During the confrontation, Hanumegowda, in a fit of rage, reportedly picked up a machete and killed Parvathi.
Following this, Hanumegowda walked into the police station holding the machete in his hand, confessed to his wife's murder, and asked them to arrest him. The police officers rushed to the crime scene, found Parvathi's dead body, and sent the remains to the public hospital for an autopsy.
