A retired soldier allegedly brutally attacked his wife with a machete near court premises on Wednesday, Sept. 29, as he chopped off her leg with the large knife in Bealagavi, Karnataka, India.
Shivappa Adaki, a retired soldier, has been accused of attacking his wife, identified only as Jayamala, with a machete while court premises after the couple came for the hearing of a domestic case in Bylahongala court in Karnataka, India on Wednesday.
Adaki and Jayamela reportedly got married 11 years ago. However, the couple had not been on good terms recently and were set to front court over a family dispute. On Wednesday, however, after the couple met at the courthouse, Adaki, in a fit of rage, reportedly assaulted the woman, striking her all over her body with a sharpened machete, Deccan Herald reported.
Jayamala who suffered serious injuries was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a man named Naganayak, 63, has been accused of heinously chopping off his wife Islawat Eshwaramma's arms and legs with a sickle while she slept at their home in Andhra Pradesh, India on Wednesday, Sept. 15.
The horrifying incident reportedly happened in Chakrayapeta Mandal of YSR Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh state, India. The couple frequently engaged in heated arguments and fights over the past three years due to recurring marital issues, Latin Times reported.
The neighbors said that the couple erupted into a raucous confrontation on the night of the alleged murder, which coincided with the Vinayaka Chaviti festival that happened on Friday, Sept. 10. The incessant bickering of the couple had even forced the couple's children to take Eshwaramma to live with them.
A recent intervention from her villagers and relatives convinced Eshwaramma to return to her husband. However, on Wednesday night, Sept. 15, while Eshwaramma was fast asleep, Naganayak allegedly took a sickle and proceeded to horrifically lop off his wife's arms and legs before fleeing the spot.
Neighbors quickly rushed to the scene after hearing the victim's screams and took her to a hospital in Kadapa for immediate treatment. The police have started an investigation and have launched a manhunt for Naganayak.
