An abusive husband has been accused of thrashing his wife with a wooden stick and killing her out of anger after she forgot to cook rice for him in Bhiwandi, Thane, Mumbai, India on Tuesday, May 24.
The accused, identified as Shankar Waghmare, a scrap dealer and resident of Balaram Chaudhari Chawl, Khoni village in Nizampura, reportedly married the victim, Jyotsna, only about a year ago. According to Waghmare's neighbors, the couple constantly engaged in heated arguments and fights over petty issues.
On Tuesday, when Waghmare came back home, he noticed that his wife had not cooked rice for him. This led to an angry confrontation between the couple. In a fit of rage, Waghmare allegedly picked up a wooden stick and began bludgeoning Jyotsna with it. She reportedly continued thrashing the victim until she died at the scene, Hindustan Times reported.
When their neighbors tried to intervene and stop the assault, they found Jyotsna lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood. The group held the accused and immediately alerted the police about the violent incident.
The authorities subsequently took Waghmare into custody and booked him for murder. Following the woman's death, an autopsy was conducted on her body. The postmortem examination revealed that the deceased died after suffering multiple injuries in her head, stomach, and backbone.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a drunk man has been accused of brutally strangling his own wife to death over a slight delay in serving him dinner in Sector 141 of Central Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India on Jan. 24, Latin Times reported.
The accused, identified as Sonu Kumar, 35, a security guard by profession, is reportedly an alcoholic and engaged in frequent fights with his wife Sharda Devi, 33. On late Monday, Jan. 24, Kumar allegedly threw a fit after coming home drunk, following Devi's inability to serve him dinner on time. Enraged, Kumar strangled his wife to death using a shawl he wrapped around her neck. He immediately fled the scene after the killing.
Upon hearing Devi’s screams for help, neighbors rushed to the residence to lend her aid. However, by the time the group reached the scene, Kumar had already left. The neighbors immediately rushed Devi to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, she was declared dead upon arrival at the facility.
The police officers registered a case against the accused under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 302 (murder) and took him into custody near Sector 142 Metro station.
