Man Befriends Minors On Instagram, Arrested For Sexually Exploiting Them

A 32-year-old Indian man was arrested by Byadarahalli police in Karnataka on charges of allegedly befriending many minor girls on Instagram and also sexually assaulting them.

The man, Diwakar, is a resident of Turuvekere, Tumakuru district. He got nabbed after a complaint was filed by a 17-year-old teenager from Byadarahalli last month, reported Times Now.

The teen told police that she got in touch with the accused through Instagram. Then they exchanged mobile numbers and started chatting. He told her that he was preparing for administrative services. The teenager said that the man also took money from her. Their friendship soon turned into a physical relationship, but the victim said that she was cheated and was sexually exploited by him.

The man was arrested April 2. An investigation into the matter revealed that out of the eight girls whom he was in touch with, seven were minors. "He was in a live-in relationship with a 24-year-old beautician in Kengeri for one year before he dumped her. But she is not willing to file a complaint against Diwakar," said an official.

The accused used to take photos of himself in front of posh houses and shared them with the girls. The police also added that he lied to the girls about having many businesses under his name. Diwakar admitted to luring girls to sexually exploit them since 2016.

In another Indian city, a minor Dalit girl died by suicide after gangrape. The 16-year-old committed suicide hours after she was raped by four teenagers in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Friday, reported Hindustan Times. The girl named the accused in a purported suicide note found in her room, after which two of the accused were held. The accused are aged between 18 and 19, an official added.

“The suicide note has been sent for forensic examination,” Superintendent of Police Meerut (Rural) Keshav Mishra said.

One of the accused and the victim studied at the same tuition. The four accused allegedly approached her when she was heading home after her tuition class Thursday evening. Then they raped her, Mishra said.

The victim’s family took her to a doctor in the village. Later, she was transferred to a city hospital, the official said. She passed away during treatment at the hospital Thursday night, he added. After a post-mortem examination, the last rites of the minor were performed. Mishra shared that the police is doing everything to catch the other two accused.
