What should have been a day of colors and festivity instead turned out to be the worst nightmare for two girls from Tripura, India. The girls aged 14 and 15 were gang-raped by eight men inside a forest.
On Monday, March 29, the two minor girls had gone out with the suspects to celebrate Holi, the festival of colors. According to the police, the victims and suspects knew each other.
However, the girls did not return back home on that day. Shockingly, the victims’ family members did not bother to file a missing person’s report.
The girls came back home the next day. They were traumatized and had injuries all over their body.
The police were alerted after the girls narrated their ordeal to their family members. The victims told their families that they were dragged into a forest where eight men took turns to rape them until the girls passed out.
"The accused took the girls to a forest and gang-raped them through the night. When they passed out, the men left presuming them to be dead," a report from Times of India quoted a police officer as saying.
The girls were immediately rushed to a local hospital. They were reported to be in stable condition.
Based on the statements given by the victims, police identified all the eight suspected rapists. Jagu Debbarma, Bimal Debbarma, Michael Debbarma, Hrishit Debbarma, Soyel Debbarma, Biresh Debbarma and Bikash Debbarma.
All eight suspects were arrested and have confessed to raping the two girls. The charges imposed on them were unclear at this time.
In a similar incident, a 19-year-old woman was gang-raped by three men while her husband helplessly watched. The heinous crime happened Monday in the city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh, India. The teen wife and her husband were on a motorcycle en route to the house of her in-laws when they were stopped by three men.
The men attacked the couple and dragged them into a forest. The men raped the woman in front of her husband. One of the suspects recorded a video of the incident. The men then threatened and robbed the victim and her husband before fleeing the scene.
