An Indian man has been accused of brutally axing his father and wife to death in front of his own children after suspecting an illicit affair between the two in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India on Friday, July 2, local authorities said.
The horrifying incident took place in the family's residence in Gokalahar village, under Belkheda Police Station, around 65 kilometers from the Jabalpur district headquarters, Madhya Pradesh, India.
The accused, identified as Santosh Lodhi, 35, allegedly found his father, Aman Singh Lodhi, 65, and his wife, Kavita Lodhi, 32, in a comprising position in his house, and in a fit of rage, hacked them to death in front of his two children with an axe.
After stabbing the two to death, Lodhi went to his uncle, Arjun Lodhi, who lived next door and confessed comitting the double murder. He then asked the older Lodhi to alert the authorities about the incident, India TV reported.
A team of policemen arrived at the home and reportedly found the bodies lying in a pool of blood in a room. Meanwhile, Lodhi was found sitting at the doorstep of the house. He was taken into custody and the axe used in the crime was seized.
“He told us that he had seen his wife and father in an objectionable position two days ago. Late on Friday night, he spotted the duo in a room. This angered him so much that he killed them,” a police officer who interrogated the accused said.
Lodhi reportedly married Kavita 16 years ago and shared two children together, a boy, 11, and a girl, 8. The children's custody has been handed over to Lodhi's relatives, according to The Free Press Journal.
The police have started a probe into the matter and further investigations are underway. The victims' bodies were reportedly handed over to their kin after a postmortem examination on July 3.
In a similar but unrelated incident, two minor girls aged 17 and 12 allegedly hacked their 45-year-old father Sahdev Netam, an alcoholic, to death after he came home drunk and attacked their ailing mother on Tuesday, June 29, at Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, India, Latin Times reported.
On Tuesday, June 20, Netam came home intoxicated and allegedly attacked the girls over the routine food that they cook for him. He then argued with his wife demanding Rs 5,000 (US$67) she had withdrawn from the bank for household work.
When his wife refused to give the money back, he started looking for an axe to attack her. The girls, who were already tired of Netam's tortures, picked up the axe and allegedly hacked him to death. While the younger one's attack reportedly brought him down on the floor, the elder girl repeatedly hacked him till he died.
The girls are reportedly charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and were presented in the Juvenile Justice Board.
