Two minor girls hacked their father to death after they reportedly could no longer stand his tantrums after he came home drunk.
The incident happened on Tuesday, June 29, at a home in the Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, India, police said.
According to the investigators, the girls aged 17 and 12 hacked their 45-year-old father to death with an axe when he reportedly began attacking their ailing mother after he came home drunk on Tuesday night.
The deceased man, identified as Sahdev Netam, was addicted to alcohol and would abuse his family on a daily basis whenever he was in an inebriated state.
The family was reportedly going through a financial crisis and the older daughter had to give up her studies to take care of their sick mother.
Police said Netam would often come home drunk and beat up his wife and daughters for money or food.
All hell broke loose on Tuesday when Netam came home in an inebriated state and began attacking the girls over the routine food that they cook for him.
"Netam picked an issue and triggered an argument with his wife demanding Rs 5,000 she had withdrawn from the bank for household work. He got enraged when she refused to give money and he looked for an axe to attack her. This infuriated the girls that their father was behind the ailing mother who had no strength to defend. Already fed up with the everyday mess Netam would create, the girls picked up the axe and attacked him. While the younger one attacked once which floored him, the elder hacked him repeatedly till he died," Ambagarh Chowki police station in-charge, Ashirwad Rahatgaonkar, told the Times of India.
Police officers responded to the home on Wednesday and discovered the victim’s body. According to the responding officers, the mother told her daughters to go with the police without resistance.
During the interrogation, the elder girl told police that she took care of the household while her younger sister studied. She said she would take care of their mother, work on the farm with her father and also cook for the whole family.
She said that her father would attack her and her sister and take away all the money if he spotted them in the market. She said her father didn’t like them being out.
Both girls are charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and were presented in the Juvenile Justice Board following which further investigation will proceed.
