Co-creators of the hit animated series "The Legend of Korra," Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, recently sat down with IGN to answer some burning questions regarding the shows fourth season. The biggest surprise from the interview was when the co-creators revealed that the show would, for now, be the final season of the Avatar franchise.
In the chat Konietzko and DiMartino talked season four discussing the time jump saying the reason for it was to progress the story but also to show the intensity of the actions from the season three finale. The two also revealed that fans will see what happened to her after in those three years that have passed in the second episode titled "Korra Alone."
As for Kuvira being the main antagonist DiMartino clarified that the captain's motives are not unlike any heroes adding that they wanted to have a villain that was a counterpart to Korra. "I wouldn't say greed so much" DiMartino said. "She is very driven. She grew up with Sue's ideology. She's got that mentality of progress and that what's drives her."
The biggest news out of the talk was when the co-creators revealed they would be taking a break from the Korra universe to pursue other ventures. "This is definitely the end of Korra. This will close that chapter" said DiMartino.
"There is no talks of any of those things at the moment, even between me and Bryan," said DiMartino. Konietzko then jumps in to say that of course that doesn't mean it could never happen but coming out of a giant production like Korra, which took 5 years, one doesn't want to immediately jump back into it.
Konietzko continued saying, "The way the show was demoted it's hard to get super exciting about it. It's not really the right timing. We need to recharge our batteries and do other things."
However, don't be too torn up about it as they pointed out "The Legend of Korra" will still live on in the comics and video games. They also mentioned they would like the idea of a live action film of Avatar or Korra but did not make any reference to it actually happening.
