Dominican Republic is celebrating their new Guinness World Record as they nab the title of Largest Mojito in the World. The Caribbean island broke the record over the weekend in an activity that took place in Punta Cana.
The record-breaking event was hosted by the bar franchise 4 Jack's in Downtown, according to Dominican Republic's Diario Libre. With this Guinnes World Record title, organizers of the event hope that Dominicans feel proud of their accomplishment. "With this experience we wish that every Dominican feels identified with this record that has the intention to project our country," organizers stated, according to Diario Libre. "We have quality, focus, and determination to shine in whichever activity, whether it's commercial or cultural. With this big initiative we seal the name of Dominican Republic at a world wide level, with a cocktail made by hand with products 100 percent national," they stated.
Diario Libre reports that the largest mojito was made in one hour and 35 minutes, with the help of over 40 people. The Largest Mojito in the World consists of the following mixture. A glass container of about 8 feet 5 inches with stainless steel structure, around 600 liters of white rum, 1,200 liters of soda, about 550 pounds of sugar, 110 pounds of hierbabuena, about 1,100 pounds of lime, and over 5,000 pounds of ice. The final product had a volume of 4,000 liters, double the size of the Guinness World Record obtained previously by Spain.
Following the event, which had hundreds of tourists and locals in the attendance, organizers received a certification by Evelyn Carrera, the judge who was reponsible to evaluate and verify the record. Check out some of the photos of the event below and salud!
