It was a hectic week for Quintana Roo Senator Luz María Beristain after two videos surfaced on the Internet showing the politician trying to abuse her power to get things done her way.
The first one revealed Beristain arguing with an airline representative when she was denied access to a flight because she was late and the gates were closed. She insisted she was in a meeting where she was looking to authorize a loan to improve the airport and the press grabbed her right after, so she couldn't make it on time.
After the employee assured the politician it wasn't because of her, but because of the company's policies, the latter began insulting the airline representative and saying that because of people like her, Mexico would never move forward.
A few days after that video was released, another one surfaced on the web, and this time showed a younger Beristain, right after she started campaigning to become senator, trying to get out of a traffic ticket. She insisted the only reason why she was being followed and later stopped, was because she was part of the opposition party, and the government was behind that.
"The harassment against the PRD has begun, it has already begun. We need to report it, a strong report. You should be ashamed of being a police officer, and a woman," said the senator to a female police officer who was also at the scene.

Apparently it's not over for the Beristain family, because now an old video of a previous scandal involving her brother, Juan Carlos Beristain, reappeared on the Internet, causing uproar among the already disgusted people of Mexico. Juan Carlos, who at the time was alderman of the municipality of Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen), was exhibited in the video asking 80 percent of one of his staff member's salary for getting him a place in the administration of the municipality.
Juan Carlos was recorded by his collaborator at the time, Eduardo Alberto Aguado Meza, who was reportedly receiving $45,000 pesos (approximately U.S. $3,500) a month, but could only collect $9,000 (U.S. $700), giving Beristain the rest.
The money Beristain collected was supposedly going to be used to support events and projects of the then presidential candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as mentioned in the video.
Here is the transcription of a relevant fragment of the video posted below:
Juan Carlos Beristain (JCB): "Alright, what should we do? Did you withdraw your money yet?"
Eduardo Alberto Aguado Meza (EAAM): "I withdrew some of it, I left the rest in the card."
JCB: "So you already have your part."
EAAM: "I withdrew 4,000."
JCB: "4,000 is good."
EAAM: "There should be a little over 18,000 in the card."
JCB: "Give it to me, I have my expenses too."
EAAM: "Listen, Juan, I wanted to talk to you about that because I've been thinking. I don't want to be in the payroll for that amount."
JCB: "Just say it and I'll change it. I'll take the money I gave you, don't worry. Just give me some time to make that transaction and I'll give you back the card. I did it with your agreement."
EAAM: "I honestly didn't think that it was going to be this much money, and I would like to know what's up with that, it's a lot of money."
JCB: "Only one bus for Andrés Manuel costs 40 thousand pesos, with your money I still need the other half. The movement costs a lot. Ask around how much is a bus to come from Mexico, call ADO (Bus Service) and ask, no hard feelings."
EAAM: "Ok, I also want to know if there's no hard feelings and we continue to work together in the municipality."
JCB: "I can put a little something here, take a little something there. I might not be able to change the base salary, but your salary is way over that, so there shouldn't be a problem."
EAAM: "I still think that you're keeping a lot of money."
JCB: "Yes, it's for the party's purposes."
