Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny expressed disappointment on Wednesday over the loss of Juan Dalmau, the candidate he supported in the island's gubernatorial elections.
Dalmau, representing the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP), was defeated by Jennifer González in the race for Governor. She will replace Pedro R. Pierluisi.
However, Bad Bunny emphasized his commitment to fighting for his Puerto Rico, highlighting the need for changes to its privatized electric service provider. "LUMA has to go," he stated.
The artist did not comment on former president Donald Trump's victory in his U.S. presidential bid, despite previously backing Trump's opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. Instead, he addressed the shared disappointment of those whose candidates did not succeed, as he did in Puerto Rico.
"With heads held high and, above all, a clear conscience. We must keep educating, keep fighting for the country we deserve," he remarked.
Here's his full message:
"Today, more than ever, I am proud of who I am, my actions, and the love I have for my homeland. It's okay to feel sad, it's okay to feel down—I understand the frustration we all feel.
I, too, am concerned about Puerto Rico's future and the challenges we may face in the coming years, which is why I speak up and will continue to do so. But I remain hopeful because more people are awakening and joining the fight for a better Puerto Rico.
We're still here, we're not giving up. With heads held high and a clear conscience. We must keep educating, keep fighting for the country we deserve. People, none of this was in vain. With love and patience, we educate. We will keep raising our voices and defending our land.
Whoever governs, I will always be here, ready to contribute to my country as I always have. Whoever governs, we will be watching, making sure things are done right, and we won't wait four years to challenge anyone who does wrong. It's up to us to protect what's ours. The people have changed, and it's felt. LUMA HAS TO GO, don't forget that.
The CEE (State Elections Commission) must work now to improve its system, which clearly failed, leaving many doubts and a bitter anti-democratic aftertaste.
To the thousands of workers who defended the votes and democracy, regardless of ideologies, THANK YOU. Puerto Rico, I LOVE YOU. We're still here, we're not giving up."
