Aislinn Derbez is a Mexican actress. She started working when she was 15 years old and years later moved to New York in which she studied acting, painting, photography and screenwriting. When she lived in New York she participated in various short films and off Broadway plays. Derbez started her career as an actress in Mexico in 2009 and worked on five feature films. Since then she has worked on television series, theater plays and now is the star along with Mauricio Ochmann of the movie ‘A La Mala’.
‘A La Mala’ follows the story of an aspiring actress Maria Laura’s, when her best friend begs her to flirt with her boyfriend to test his fidelity, Maria finds a lucrative new career. After being hired by women across the city, Maria is given a gig that should be business as usual until she ends up falling head over heels for her latest mark. ‘A La Mala’ stars Aislinn Derbez, Mauricio Ochmann, Aurora Papile, Luis Arrieta, Daniela Schmidt, Juan Diego Covarrubias and is directed by Pedro Pablo Ibarra. Latin Times interviewed Aislinn Derbez about her role in the movie, working with her father Eugenio Derbez and finding the love of her life all in one movie.
Latin Times: How did you get casted for the film?
Aislinn Derbez: They called me about the casting. I did a few takes and then was selected.
LT: What did you love the most about your character?
AD: I love the versatility and matisses that it has and I find it very interesting. It was fun to play different roles and looks within my role. It has a lot of comedy and drama all in the same movie.
LT: Was this the first time you work with your father (Eugenio Derbez) or have you worked with him before? If so how was that experience for you?
AD: I had worked with him before and it’s really fun. He goes into character and it’s like a different person. It was a very fun experience and I get to tease him too.
LT: Did you have any challenges while filming this movie?
AD: Absolutely, there were a few things that were challenging during the production process. For example there were some scenes in the car that were a bit dangerous. There were a few stunts that were a bit challenging. Also, comedy is a challenging making people laugh can be a tough job. To ensure people enjoy the comedy parts and at the same time enjoy the drama could be very challenging as an actress.
LT: Do you identify yourself your character?
AD: I feel that this is the character that is the most like me out of all I have played. My character had challenges trying to become an actress something that I identify myself with because I went through it in real life. I have a lot of things in common with my character. In my role I started falling in love with Mauricio and at the same time I was falling in love with him in real life.
LT: Did you have a relationship prior to this movie with Mauricio Ochmann or did you both started falling in love while working together?
AD: It’s something that happened while we were working together in the project.
LT: Any other projects you will be working on this year?
AD: Yes, I am working now on a film called ‘Compadres’ with Omar Chaparro. This is a comedy action film that will be releasing either ending of this year or beginning of next year.
