Early June at E3 2014 Square Enix released a trailer for "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix" and with it a short teaser of the highly-anticipated next chapter to the franchise "Kingdom Hearts III." The teaser video showed was actually the introduction to "KH3." Co-director of the title Tai Yasue told Kotaku it is the first thing gamers will see when they start up the game.
"That's the starting scene for "Kingdom Hearts III," actually," Yasue said. "[Co-director Tetsuya] Nomura has a real clear picture of the starting sequence. He wrote that up actually, the drawings, and we voice-recorded that. That's gonna be a real integral part of the story of 'Kingdom Hearts III.' It's gonna be the starting point of 'Kingdom Hearts III.'"
The intro starts with flashes of different characters then says "The next chapter opens ... " then we hear a piano melody followed by a narrative voice over in Japanese talking about the ancient Keyblade War. The voice then talks of the war saying the keyblade welders fought over ownership of the light then ask if we've heard of the "lost masters." Finally, the trailer ends with a partial glimpse of the "Kingdom Hearts III" logo and the message that the title is currently in development.
While much has not been revealed about KH3 Yasue did tell Kotaku that the technology used in the title is way different than the other titles saying, "As a developer I'm really excited, the technology is totally different, and creatively it's moving at leaps and bounds." Yasue then said the PS4 gameplay that was shown at D23 in Japan is something gamers will see often.
"We'll have, I think, a lot of that," Yasue said. "You could I guess imagine a theme park sort of ride-based action. I think that might be an important part of the game, and so I think people can really look forward to that. It will be moving in leaps and bounds, I think. It's very exciting."
Now that "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix" is finally complete the developers can focus solely on KH3 which means we will see more about the title in the coming months (hopefully more gameplay video and a official launch date or window).
