"Kingdom Hearts 3" fans have been not so patiently waiting for a release date announcement, but despite already waiting nearly a decade for the next installment, fans may still have a few more years to wait. And although this delayed release date for KHIII is disappointing, there is a significant silver lining. "Kingdom Hearts 3" will be released for PlayStaion 4! Now while this news may not really sound much news, but considering the lack of production from Square Enix on KH3 the possibility of the game being released in PS4's lifetime was looking a bit bleak. But now after a new nterview with game director Tetsuya Nomura and a recently released game trailer, fans should prepare themselves because KH3 will be played on PS4 and it will be unlike anything they've ever experienced with the Kingdom Hearts franchise!
A teaser trailer released at the D23 Expo in Japan gives KH3 fans a quick glimpse of what they can expect from the next installment of the highly anticipated video game series. The new trailer show how the new game will a boost a serious HD revamp, which is supported by the net-gen home console. The gameplay will also incorporate more Disney inspirations, which according to Nomura will seriously influence the look and visual style. KH3 will have a more brush-like visual style in comparison to the more photography look of the past; Nomura revealed that the team at Square Enix is attempting to revamp the visuals in the game all with Disney in mind. "We don't have an official name for it, but we have something called the 'Kingdom Shader'."
This new and improves visual style is only possible due to the new technology created by the next-gen consoles, namely PS4 and Xbox One. According to Nomura, "Kingdom Hearts" was first built with the brush-like quality in mind, however the console technology could not yet support it. "Ever since the first game, we've strived for a Disney-like brush quality in the graphic gradations," although Nomura's team ran into issues mostly because the PlayStation 2 did possess the processing power to "freely adjust the lighting" therefore the attempt at brush-like visual were produced as textures. So with the release of the PS4 coming at the end of this year, we are sure that "Kingdom Hearts 3" will be released in it's lifetime due to Nomura's reliance on it's technology, specifically he stated that "the new hardware has become much more capable, so there is no 'no using lights' option."
So with KHIII visual style being modeled after new technologies available in the next-generation home consoles, there is hope for fans! But with production delayed, and Square Enix's resources being funneled towards the more profitable "Final Fantasy 14" will Nomura and his team is able to complete the game in a timely manner? Well, right now the projected release date is still 2 years away, although, with their dependence and inclusion of new visual qualities linked directly to PS4 and Xbox One, maybe just maybe production will increase!
