“Jane The Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez has discovered that you can use social media pages for the greater good.
Thanks to Instagram and Twitter, the 31-year-old actress has been able to make a fan’s dream come true, empower Latinos in Hollywood, and raise awareness about immigration, and most recently, labeling.
During a Q&A session on Twitter earlier this week, Rodriguez interacted with her followers and revealed her celebrity crush, favorite Puerto Rican food, and her stand on sexual identity.
“Do you identify as straight?” asked Twitter user @ay_rayray_ using the suggested hashtag #askgina.
“I don’t need anyone to define their sexuality to me nor do I feel the need to either. I love hearts. Period,” Rodriguez replied.
Throughout the chat, the charismatic Chicagoan opened up about rejection, the importance of staying positive, self-esteem and more.
“Of course I’m afraid of rejection but I won’t allow it to stop me. The worst is someone says no, so I find the yes,” the Golden Globe winner wrote. “You can’t get everything you want in life, it won’t always go your way. Accepting that allows you to find your story.”
On keeping a positive self-esteem, she added, “The only person you got is you. Love you first and everything will fall in line. Thank God you were lucky enough to be you!”
Last month, the Puerto Rican beauty shocked her admirers when she decided to go all in, and chopped her locks for a movie role.
“I cut my hair for a film and there is nothing more freeing than realizing your beauty exists from within,” she wrote in an empowering message. “I am not my hair. I am not my weight. I am not my skin color. I am love, I want to be love with every interaction, with every decision I make for myself, with every failure and success.”
She continued, “You should try it. I dare you. Let go of what you think would make you more beautiful and discover you have all you need already inside.”
