Jessica Simpson opened up about her murky past in the upcoming memoir, “Open Book”. The 39-year-old American singer who has sought professional help in the past to cope with alcoholism revealed that the daughter of a family friend did some “really uncomfortable things” to her as a child, while they slept together during family reunions.
“It would start with tickling my back and then go into things that were extremely uncomfortable,” mentioned Simpson in an excerpt from the memoir, which was published in a media outlet. While she eventually mustered up the courage to open up to her parents, Tina and Joe Simpson, things didn’t go as expected. Simpson recalls her mom asserting that she always felt something was amiss. “Dad kept his eye on the road and said nothing,” Simpson recalls. “We never stayed at my parents' friend’s house again but we also didn't talk about what I had said,” she added.
Simpson who’s currently married to Eric Johnson didn’t divulge much about whether she endured the abuse for longer or how exactly things ended on that front. The singer, who’s been sober for the past couple of years, also believes that her coping mechanism was taking to alcohol and popping pills.
So much so, she went on with abusing her body until she collapsed at a Halloween party at their family home in 2017. Hitting the rock bottom however opened up a new life altogether, via therapy. Simpson finally decided to turn over a new leaf and sought therapy thrice a week. She has been off alcohol ever since.
Simpson who then decided to make a healthier switch, immersed herself in work, and allowed herself to feel the traumas she has been through. Despite a bumpy ride, Simpson is grateful for everything that has got her to where she is currently. "It's been a long hard deep emotional journey one that I've come through the other side with pure happiness and fulfillment and acceptance of myself,” Simpson said. “I've used my pain and turned it into something that can be beautiful and hopefully inspiring to people,” she added.
