Jennifer Lopez is definitely too much for us mortals. This diva sure knows how to step things up a notch and she teaches everyone in her new music video for the song “I Luh Ya PaPi.” The clip premiered during “American Idol” on Thursday night and it’s totally worth watching it. We must admit, however, that when we heard the song we were a little skeptical about it, but after seeing the video it all made sense. It starts off with JLo and two of her back up dancers (two fierce and sassy Latinas, we might add) talking video ideas for the song with “Danny from the record company.”
They highlight that this single is the first off Jennifer’s 10th studio album, and it needs to be something that wows. The record company guy suggests some “lame” ideas like a zoo and a waterpark, which the girls refuse, until one of them can’t stand it anymore and speaks up her mind. "If she was a guy, we wouldn't be having this conversation at all,” she says.
The other woman quickly agrees, saying, "Seriously, because if she was a dude, they would seriously have her up in a mansion with all these half-naked girls, or maybe even in a yacht." Then the first girl drops some serious solution at us, "Why do men always objectify the women in every single video? Why can't we for once objectify the men?" Boom. History was made. JLo, who’s sitting in the middle of the two ladies through this whole conversation begins daydreaming what it would be like if she was the one objectifying men.
Directed by Jessy Terrero, who’s quickly positioning himself as one of the most prominent music videos directors in the business, this clip has some serious throwbacks to some of Lopez’s most famous outfits, like the “On the 6” artwork, her “I’m Real” music video and of course, the talked-about Versace dress she wore for the Grammys in 2000. But also, besides the clothing selection, this video features major eye candy for the ladies. It positions women as the bosses, using men to satisfy their needs without being judged by it. It’s basically a rap video turned around. Men are used as the sexual objects of desire, while women enjoy lounging around them. Check it out below and let us know what you think!
