Can you believe it's been five years since Jenni Rivera lost her life in a tragic accident? If it's been hard for all of us fans, we can only imagine how difficult it has been for her kids to process living without their mother. On her fifth death anniversary all of her kids -Chiquis, Jacqie, Mikey, Jenicka and Johnny- will pay tribute to "La Diva de la Banda" by celebrating her life in a special set to air on Universo cable channel called “Remembering Jenni, Our Mom”. The one-hour show is scheduled to air on Saturday, December 9th at 7pm/6C.
“December is always is a tough month for us but this year we decided to do something different. Instead of mourning our momma, we decided to CELEBRATE the great woman she is!! Thank you all for keeping her legacy alive. #JenniVive because of YOU, We ALL love Jenni,” stated Chiquis Rivera.
In this special show, viewers will get to join the cast of “The Riveras” – Chiquis, Jacqie, Mikey, Jenicka and Johnny in an intimate barbecue gathering with Don Pedro Rivera, Doña Rosa, Rosie Rivera and Jenni’s best friends. Jenni’s family and friends will share their most memorable moments and never-before-told stories about La Diva de la Banda as they look back at some of her greatest moments of all time.
The children share about their mom’s humble beginnings when she lived in a garage in Long Beach and cherish the fun adventure in Hawaii where they swam with manta rays. Music fans will get to discover more about the full of life woman’s untraditional ways as she challenges her brother Juan Rivera in a fierce paintball battle and when she takes Chiquis and Jacqie to pole dancing lessons.
Jenicka and Johnny will also get to meet some of the Mexican-American diva’s most loyal fans who reminisce about their idol’s generous ways as Jacqie and Mikey take the streets to do trivia questions. In addition to the great memories Jenni’s children and her family recount the last moments with Jenni and the sorrow they felt when Jenni died in the tragic plane crash on December 9, 2012.
Before the special premiere, UNIVERSO will air a four hour marathon of “I love Jenni” beginning at 3pm/2C.
“Remembering Jenni, Our Mom” was executive produced by Irune Ariztoy for UNIVERSO and created by Edward Paige and Liane Su from Blank Paige Productions, the same production company that produced “I Love Jenni” and hit celeb-reality “The Riveras”.
The Rivera kids have been in the news lately after Jenni's youngest son Johnny López, addressed gay rumors and acknowledged he was in a relationship with another boy. "There’s been a lot said about me in the past few weeks," he said. "Things didn’t come out the way I wanted them to. It was a little bit of a mistake on my part, I wanted to make this video first and for everyone to understand me."My boyfriend, as you guys know, Joaquín… we both got a little too excited and he posted a few pictures of us and I retweeted them and they went viral and people started noticing that we were together. I am in a gay relationship right now and I am in love with this person."
