Donald Trump’s second impeachment has started but an acquittal is looming. The trial will go on after a vote of 56-44 after the Senate rejected the argument raised by defense lawyers that the 74-year-old was beyond reach after leaving the White House on Jan. 20.

Despite the presentation of video footage showing the unfortunate events of the US Capitol attack, it appears that the Democrats' hope of disqualifying Trump from running for public office in the future is not looking good.

A reason behind this is that only six Republican senators joined the Democrats to vote in favor of allowing the trial to proceed. 17 are needed to secure a conviction, SBS reported. A two-thirds majority in the 50-50 Senate is needed to convict the former United States president.

Though the odds appear to be in his favor, Trump has been cautioned by his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner not to let his guard down. Despite having the votes, both are wary that the 74-year-old could screw things up.

Kushner has allegedly been using the phrase “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory,” something that Trump may want to take into consideration, Politico reported. And it appears Trump has listened to the couple, aware that he has 45 votes to his side. But along that comes Trump’s vision that he will eventually make a comeback.

Worth noting here is the kind of comeback Trump has in mind. Most see him re-emerging at some point and seeking revenge against Republicans who crossed the line when he left office. It is a possibility if he does get acquitted, a reason why the ongoing impeachment trial carries a lot.

Then again, the comeback could be in the form of another Trump. This is about Ivanka who many feel is plotting her political career. Further, the elder Trump is backing her to do so. Hence, it all depends which Trump would re-emerge by the time the next United States Presidential elections come around.
