Ivana Trump, the first wife of former United States President Donald Trump, died at the age of 73 in her home in New York City on Thursday. Donald and Ivana were married for 15 years; they shared three children together, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric Trump.
"Our mother was an incredible woman -- a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend," the Trump family said in a statement as they announced the death of their mother. "Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination," the family continued. "She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren."
Ivana was born in 1949 in Czechoslovakia and immigrated to the U.S. through Canada during the 1970s. Here is a look back at Ivana's life romances, as well as her net worth.
Alfred Winklmayr 1971-1973
Ivana married Alfred in Prague in November 1971 at the age of 22. The model and the Austrian ski instructor were married for two years, from 1971 to 1973 and had no children. Ivana was believed to have married Alfred because she wanted freedom from Czechoslovakia's then-communist regime. She reportedly received her Austrian passport in March 1972 after which she immigrated to Canada in Sept. 1972. She got her marriage with Alfred "dissolved" in Aug. 1973.
Donald Trump 1977-1992
Ivana and Donald were officially married in 1977. They enjoyed 15 years of marriage together before deciding to part ways. Their divorce was finalized in 1992 due to rumors that Donald had cheated with beauty queen Marla Maples.
The former couple met in New York City in 1976 while Ivana, who worked as a model, was in town for a fashion show. She spoke with the New York Post in 2016 as she shared their first meeting, saying that she and her friends were waiting for a table at a bar on the Upper East Side when the real-estate expert approached her.
"[There's] this tall blond guy with blue eyes. He said: 'I'm Donald Trump and I see you're looking for a table. I can help you.' I look at my friends and said: 'The good news is, we're going to get a table real fast. The bad news is, this guy is going to be sitting with us,'" she recalled. Donald ended up paying the entire bill before disappearing. Ivana then found him sitting outside in the "driver's seat of his own limousine" when she left the bar. Donald then offered to drive home the whole gang; after that, Ivana and Donald began dating.
Riccardo Mazzucchelli 1995-1997
Ivana married Italian entrepreneur and international businessman Riccardo Mazzucchelli in Nov. 1995. They were married for two years and got divorced in 1997. Ivana then accused Riccardo of violating the confidentiality clause of their prenuptial agreement; she sued him for $15 million. Riccardo filed a libel lawsuit against Ivana and Donald in the United Kingdom. Both were able to settle their disagreements outside of court. He died in Sept. 2017.
Rossano Rubicondi 2008-2009
Ivana proceeded on to marry a much-younger man. Ivana and Italian actor Rossano Rubicondi married in April 2008 at Mar-a-Lago — the luxury Palm Beach, Florida club and resort owned by Donald. Ivana and Rossano separated ways even before their one-year marriage anniversary. They reportedly remained an on-and-off couple for the following years. They even made a surprise appearance together on the Italian version of "Dancing with the Stars" in 2018. Rossano died in November 2021 at the age of 49.
Ivana's net worth
Ivana's fame was not due to Donald; she was already considered a high-profile personality in several industries. The Czech-American was a former athlete in skiing. She then transitioned to the modeling in the U.S. and Canada. Ivana, a former businesswoman, athlete and fashion model, reportedly had a net worth of $100 million before she died.
Ivana also worked in the Trump Organization as a senior executive. She managed the design team of Trump Tower in New York City. Ivana also worked as the Trump Hotel & Casino president in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She, later on, was promoted to the position of manager of New York's infamous Plaza Hotel. Ivana built several fashion lines, beauty products and jewelry. She launched the House of Ivana fashion and fragrance company in 1995.
After divorcing Trump, Ivana was given $25 million in cash plus their mansion in Greenwich, Connecticut. She was also provided the option of a $22 million cash payment for a brand new house if the Greenwich house was sold before their divorce was finalized. Ivana was provided $650,000 in annual child support until all three children reached the age of 18.
