Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema unveiled a new “It: Chapter Two” teaser trailer at CinemaCon on Tuesday, offering a glimpse of the highly anticipated sequel. The trailer shows the reunion of the Losers' Club and the return of Beverly Marsh to her childhood home, where an old lady unleashes the demonic creature that is Pennywise.
In the trailer, the members of the Losers' Club are already grown up — an indication that the film will pick up decades since the first film closed. The Losers' Club reunites after the child-killing clown returns to Derry, Maine, to prey on its residents.
Part of the trailer particularly focuses on Beverly Marsh, the only female member of the Losers' Club, who revisits her childhood home only to discover that her father has already passed away in the years since she left Derry and that a little old lady is now occupying their old home.
The footage shows the old lady inviting her into the house, offering a cup of tea and some cookies. However, Marsh realizes that something is wrong when she notices eerie insects forming a pattern on the window. Suddenly, the old lady disappears from her sight, only to realize that she’s now stripped in the kitchen, dancing maniacally — just like Pennywise. “You know what they say about Derry,” the old woman says. “No one who dies here ever really dies,” she adds.
Another scene in the footage also shows the Losers' Club going down the sewer where Pennywise once lived. It remains to be seen what the gang will do down there, but it teases yet another spine-tingling encounter with the killer clown.
The new trailer for “It: Chapter Two” made its way to CinemaCon, alongside the trailer for “Joker,” another horror flick that is set to arrive this year. During the unveiling, the young cast of “It” stood on stage with their grown-up Losers' Club counterparts, including Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, James McAvoy and Isaiah Mustafa.
Sophia Lillis, who played the young Beverly Marsh in the first film, revealed that she had predicted that Chastain would portray the adult version of her character. According to the actress, she thought she and Chastain looked pretty much alike.
“It: Chapter Two” will see the return of Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise. The film will debut in theaters on Sept. 9.
