Behold, Macheads: here is the all-new Apple iPhone 6 right out of its retail box! This leak is one month ahead of Apple's official iPhone 6 launch party. According to TechRadar, the images allegedly came from an Apple beta tester.
First and foremost, TechRadar determined that the images seem to be authentic. Despite the fact that the images were derived from an unfamiliar source, the EXIF data reveals that there has not been any photo manipulation on the images. That said, there is still plenty of room for doubt.
First, the leaked retail box features a very familiar packaging style that hallmarks Apple's artfully minimalistic approach to design. However, sharp-eyed iPhone enthusiasts say that the iPhone 6 image printed on the top of the box are missing some key Apple apps that should be present on the front screen. Health and fitness apps will be a key area of competition against the likes of Samsung's Galaxy phones. It makes little sense for Apple to omit the Health app from the iPhone 6's front screen.
In addition, the three leaked images do not offer many details. For one, the packaging does not reveal whether this particular white-silver model is a standard 4.7-inch or the top-of-the-line 5.5-inch variant. Secondly, we're more than a little frustrated that the unboxing images do not show the charger cables or the headset. Talk about an opportunity lost! That said, if these images of the retail iPhone 6 are authentic, then we can confirm that the leaked prototype and mockup images were pretty much spot-on. Also, the iPhone 6 looks remarkably thin, and well deserving of the rumored iPhone 6 Air moniker.
So far, we have reported that the new iPhone 6 would be available in two screen sizes, including a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model. Both iPhone 6 variants will be powered by a new2.0GHz A8 processor. Stay tuned as we learn more in the month ahead!
