Husband Kills Self With The Same Veil That His Wife Used To Hang Herself To Death

A 25-year-old Forest Guard ended his life moments after his wife allegedly hanged herself to death. The apparent double-suicide happened in the Birunani village in India’s Karnataka state on Sunday, Feb. 20, authorities said.

The man, identified only as Yuvaraj, a Forest Guard at the Srimangala Wildlife Division, was residing in a rented house at Birunani with his 22-year-old wife, Shilpa.

On Sunday evening, Yuvaraj returned home from work to find Shilpa hanging dead in the bathroom of the house. He immediately informed the incident to his family members and the house owner, who helped him bring down his wife’s lifeless body, according to reports.

As they waited for the police and paramedics to arrive, Yuvaraj went to the bathroom and hanged himself using the same veil that his wife had used to kill herself, local media reports said.

The reason for the couple to take the extreme step remains unclear. The Srimangala Police have registered a case and are investigating the deaths.

A similar incident happened on the same night at a home in India’s Telangana. A couple, belonging to the fishing community, allegedly killed themselves after a heated argument over fish curry, according to reports.

The man, 40-year-old Namala Shankar, and his 35-year-old wife, Namala Sujatha, were found dead inside their home at the Ramareddy village in Kamareddy district on Sunday night.

Their six-year-old son, Prem Kumar found them hanging from the ceiling and informed his grandmother who then alerted the police, according to the officials.

According to local sources, the couple often engaged in altercations with each other and some of them had even led to physical assaults.

The duo had even attended a counseling session at the Sirikonda police station recently, the police said.

On Sunday, Shankar caught three fish, of which he sold two, and returned home with the remaining one. He asked his wife to cook fish curry for dinner, but she reportedly refused. This gave way to a verbal spat between the duo, sources said.

A few hours after this argument, the duo was found hanging dead, police said.

It is unclear if Shankar killed Sujatha before hanging himself to death, however, an investigation is ongoing and officers are questioning the victims’ family and neighbors to gain a possible lead into the alleged suicide.
