Heartbroken Man Assaults Neighbor, Kills Himself After She Gets Engaged To Someone Else

A man who was upset over his neighbor for getting engaged to another man physically assaulted her before allegedly killing himself, police said on Tuesday, Feb.22.

According to police, the unidentified man and woman both lived in the same locality in Loni, a town in the Ghaziabad district of India’s Uttar Pradesh.

The now-deceased man reportedly wanted to marry the 22-year-old woman, but she had recently got engaged to another man.

The deceased was disturbed by this and had made repeated attempts to convince the woman to marry him, but she refused, according to reports.

At around 7.30 am on Monday, the woman was on her way to work when the man attacked her in Delhi's Meet Nagar, a senior officer said.

The woman sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a private hospital, where she is undergoing treatment, the officials said.

"Today when she was going to her office, this neighbor assaulted her," the woman's father told the police, the Daijiworld reported.

The man then returned home and ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan, police said.

"He was brought dead to GTB hospital," an official said. No suicide note was recovered from the scene, they added.

"A case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Jyoti Nagar police station and an investigation was taken up," said Sanjay Kumar Sain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast).

"However, we got to know later that the accused had committed suicide in his home which comes under the jurisdiction of Loni police station in Ghaziabad," he added.

A similar incident was reported from the Indian city of Hyderabad, where a 30-year-old police constable allegedly killed himself at his home during the wee hours of Sunday, Feb. 20.

Tejavath Raju, a 2020 batch police constable deputed to the Maheswaram police station of Rachakonda commissionerate, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his bedroom at his home in Nacharam on Sunday morning.

According to the police, Raju was in a relationship with one of his distant relatives however, due to differences, they got engaged to other persons.

But their partners called off the wedding after they got to know about the relationship between Raju and the woman.

A few months later, Raju and the woman reconciled their relationship and decided to get married. However, the woman was insisting him to shift to another house after their marriage, they can stay together.

Raju who lived with his elderly parents was against this idea of leaving them and moving to another house.

According to reports, the unidentified woman had threatened to not marry him if he did not comply with her demand.

Raju was reportedly upset after he failed to convince the woman, leading him to fall into depression and eventually succumb to a death by suicide, said police.

Based on a complaint from Raju’s parents, the police registered a case under section 174 CrPC. This is an ongoing investigation.
