Princess Diana broke down in tears after her divorce from Prince Charles was finalized. But it also didn’t take the Princess of Wales long before she made light of the situation.
One of her close friends, Nish Joshi, shared details about the conversation he had with Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom on the phone. The holistic health practitioner told Daily Mail that Princess Diana was crying when she called him up.
“I said, ‘You’ll be fine,’” Joshi said. “Then after a moment she collected herself and said, ‘Well, I suppose £21 million is not bad for an ex-nanny,’ which I thought was cute,” he added.
Before dating Prince Charles, Princess Diana worked as a nanny for Mary Robertson and her son, Patrick. The American businesswoman, who was living in London in the 1980s, paid Princess Diana $5 per hour for her services.
During an interview with Inside Edition, Robertson revealed that she called an agency asking for help in finding a part-time nanny for her young son. The agency sent an 18-year-old girl to her home, and she immediately fell in love with her.
According to Robertson, she had no idea that Princess Diana was the same Lady Diana who belonged to one of England’s oldest families. She only discovered the truth after she found a deposit slip from Princess Diana’s bank inside her pouch.
“It said, ‘Lady Diana Spencer’ and it was a deposit slip from Coutts and Company,” Robertson said. “And because I worked in finance, I knew that Coutts was the banker for the aristocracy and the royal family,” she said.
While Princess Diana was still working for Robertson and her family, she started dating Prince Charles. Robertson said that there were times wherein the paparazzi would surround her home because they wanted to catch a glimpse of the future king’s girlfriend.
One year later, Princess Diana and Prince Charles tied the knot. Robertson received an invitation to the event, and she made sure to not skip it. Unfortunately, Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage didn’t last. Fifteen years later, they legally divorced.
