Prince Charles made headlines during his engagement interview with Princess Diana years ago. Several years ago, he gave a cryptic answer to what was just a simple question.
An interviewer asked the future king if he and the Princess of Wales were in love, and instead of saying yes, he surprisingly replied something else. “Whatever love is,” Prince Charles said. Princess Diana simply said of course.
Royal fans still haven’t gotten over what Prince Charles said at that time. They are convinced that this was a telling sign that the heir to the throne wasn’t really madly in love with the late Princess Diana.
Alice Tobin said that Prince Charles’ answer was a sad mistake. But it is also important to note that Prince Charles wed Princess Diana somehow out of duty and not because of love.
“He was acting like a spoiled, privileged, insolent child — although he was like 30,” Tobin said. “He certainly did not exhibit royal behavior. Diana may not have been in love with a man child, but she was in love with the royal idea. The shaky foundation of their marriage doomed the match from the start,” she added.
Gail Lucas, an ASL interpreter, said that Prince Charles’ shocking answer simply meant that he didn’t really love Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom. Prince Charles didn’t also shy away from telling the whole world about how he felt.
“He treated her vilely from the off, as they say,” she said. “Can you imagine how devastated you’d be if your fiancé said something like that publicly right after your engagement?” she added.
Lucas also said that royal experts were wrong in saying that Prince Charles’ answer was his indirect message to Camilla Parker Bowles. The royal fan said that the entire world knew what Prince Charles meant, and so did Princess Diana.
Deanna Eppers, an ardent follower of the royal family, also said that Prince Charles’ answer indicated that he didn’t love the Princess of Wales. After all, Prince Charles knew what love is, and he has felt it throughout his life. He just stated that he was doing his duty by marrying the sacrificial lamb, Princess Diana, to make his family happy.
