Demi Lovato recently celebrated the first-year anniversary of her accidental drug overdose. Since the shocking incident, the “Stone Cold” singer has been doing everything she can to turn her life around.
A source recently told US Weekly that every day is still a constant struggle for the former child star. “[But] she’s remained determined to lead a life of sobriety and live her life to its fullest potential, especially following the first anniversary of her relapse,” the source said.
At present, Lovato exercises regularly and eats healthy. The actress also makes it a point to surround herself with positive people like her ex-boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama.
Lovato and Valderrama dated for six years before calling it quits in 2016. But even after they broke up, a source told E! News that the former couple has stayed friends. Valderrama has checked in on Lovato a couple of times, and he also showed his ex-girlfriend a lot of support during her most difficult time.
A source also said that Lovato and Valderrama decided to call it quits after they realized that their relationship was no longer like how it used to be.
While the couple was still together, Lovato spoke with Huff Post Live, where she credited Valderrama for her sobriety. “He never takes credit for my sobriety, but I guarantee I wouldn’t be alive without him today,” she said.
In 2015, Lovato also said that she and Valderrama are not yet engaged. But the singer said that if her then boyfriend would ask her to marry him, she would say yes.
“I am very, very in love with him,” Lovato told a New Zealand radio station. “I think — we will probably wait a little longer, but — if he asked tomorrow I would say yes,” she continued.
The “Complicated” singer was found unconscious in her home in Hollywood last year. Lovato stayed in the hospital where she received treatment for two weeks. She later on checked into a treatment center.
A source told US Weekly last year that Lovato’s rehab center was drill sergeant-esque. “It’s not nurturing … That’s not what Demi needs to put her in check,” the source said.
