Las Vegas, Nevada — Hillary Clinton trolled a notorious troll on Monday night, joining a protest of the Trump International Hotel In Las Vegas. Clinton stopped by briefly to show love for Culinary Workers Union Local 226, a group that has been been protesting the Trump property on a regular basis, trying to win a favorable contract. Donald Trump is the namesake and founder of the hotel. He is not directly involved in the contract negotiations.
Speakers at event evoked Pope Francis’ message of compassion, lambasted Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, and called for fair wages and benefits. Spanish was spoken, and the massive presence of Latino immigrants was repeatedly acknowledged.
Then, organizers welcomed a special guest.
"I wanted to come by and lend my voice to all yours and I wish you well in these efforts," Clinton said to a column of hundreds of workers who blocked one of the two lanes of traffic leading to the Trump hotel, which gleamed gold as the sun was setting over the strip.
Clinton criticized Trump’s rhetoric that, in her words, “insult” both immigrants and women. With the Trump tower behind her clinton’s red overcoat matched the red of the Culinary Union T-Shirts and the signs that they held up reading “No Contract, No Peace.”
Other candidates declined invitations to speak on Monday night, according to union organizers. However, two candidates had already met with the union in past weeks. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley has met with the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 more than once, most recently last week. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) also met with the union last week.
