There’s a new fashion trend among the royal British family! Back in June 2019, Kate Middleton was seen wearing a $222 Sandro Paris dress, with a pair of petal drop earrings that only cost around 4% of her dress. The earrings which she got from Accessorize have a price tag of $10.

This cheap earrings-pricey dress combination would again be seen in September when she graced the Back to Nature Garden in London. During said occasion, she sported a $2000 Emilia Wickstead dress and a $6 pair of earrings, again, from Accessorize.

Meghan Markle also did the same when she donned a $10,000 Valentino dress during the wedding of her friend in September. Her pair of earrings were borrowed, but reports said that they only cost $6. The accessories were from the Portobello Road Market.

Just last October, Meghan again stunned the crowd with this latest royal fashion statement. During a speech in her tour in Africa alongside Prince Harry, she was clad in an elegant-looking white Tencel shirt dress from Lavery. Her accessories of choice were a $30 pair of Madewell red tassel earrings.

This fashion movement, according to experts, is not a simple phenomenon. Fashion guru Cécile Duclossaid that this is being used by the two members of the royal family to captivate people across different socio-economic classes.

Calling the move a strategic one, Kate and Meghan’s choice of affordable accessories is a way of showing a humble personality. It sends the notion that even a member of the royal family can shop in places where most of the population buy their accessories.

Appealing to a different audience, their rather pricey dresses meanwhile help establish their popularity and show their support to the players in the high-end fashion scene. In turn, both can be used as a strong asset when they embark on political endeavors.

For royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, this fashion trend is not yet confirmed to be intentional. But either way, this fashion sense significantly helps in making the royals “more relatable” to the crowd.
