“Beware my power - Green Lantern's light!” Well HBO Max can turn the production lights now that they cast Jeremy Irvine to play the first "Green Lantern," gay superhero Alan Scott.

“Very excited to be joining the DC Universe!! Can’t wait to get started,” he wrote on his Instagram. He even added the Corps famous oath: “In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might,

Beware my power - Green Lantern's light!”

For the uninitiated, Scott was Earth's first “Green Lantern,” and he is a gay man, as shown in the comics. Martin Nodell designed the character and he first appeared in the comics in 1940.

Scott, a train engineer, owes his abilities to a supernatural green lantern fashioned from a peculiar meteorite. Scott joined the Justice Society of America, and in his universe-hopping exploits, he would occasionally pair up with Green Lantern Corps members, particularly Hal Jordan.

The film was initially announced in 2019 and was pushed to pilot in 2020. The narrative spans decades and universes, beginning with Scott on Earth in 1941 and 1984 with Gardner, an arrogant alpha male, and half-alien Bree Jarta.

Alan came out as gay in 2012, making him one of the most well-known LGBTQ fictional characters. In the issue Infinite Frontier #0, he spoke about his experiences as a gay man.

Alan will appear in the 10-episode series, which spans decades, as a secretly homosexual FBI agent in 1941. It's the first time the character's sexuality will be addressed on-screen in a live-action setting.

Greg Berlanti, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Marc Guggenheim co-wrote and executive produced the series, with Grahame-Smith acting as showrunner. Executive producers include Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and David Katzenberg, with Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi co-executive producing. Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television will collaborate on the project.

It’s hard to say when the series will come out in HBO Max but production for the show has started in April. The series' first two episodes will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger, who is most known for his work on The CW's “Superman & Lois” and “Riverdale.”
