A Florida man who fatally shot his grandfather and later delivered a heartfelt eulogy at his funeral has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading no contest to second-degree murder.
On December 28, 2023, James Khoury, a 71-year-old Baptist deacon, was found shot outside his home in South Gulf Cove, Florida.
The investigation revealed that Khoury's grandson, Joshua Nareau, had walked from his nearby home to Khoury's property around the time of the shooting, Wink News reported.
Nareau had praised his grandfather during a eulogy at the funeral, calling him a father figure and role model. Despite initially denying involvement, forensic evidence tied the murder weapon—a bolt-action rifle—to Nareau.
Evidence, including cell phone data and ballistic analysis, linked Nareau to the crime, leading to his arrest.
He ultimately entered a no-contest plea in January 2025 and was sentenced to 20-and-a-half years in prison by Circuit Judge Shannon McFee, with credit for time served.
