Martin Henderson, who plays Dr. Nathan Riggs in "Grey's Anatomy," discussed the powerful bond between his character and Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey.
Talking to TV Line, Martin revealed that the potential for romance between the characters in Season 13 is more than possible due to their "shared loss." Henderson said, "And just the fact that maybe [he can be] someone in her life that she can relate to on that level."
"I think that’s always really powerful between a couple," he continued. And it "may be fertile ground for them to actually have a relationship with some meaning."
Henderson also revealed that the pair could also share a relationship that is not only deep, but fun as well.
"Nathan is irreverent and kind of calls Meredith on her s**t, and that might be really good for her, because he doesn’t take [things] all that seriously," said Henderson. "It might be nice for her to have the opportunity to actually lighten up a bit around some stuff."
Henderson said he is excited for fans to see which character will let their guard down first.
Meanwhile, Dr. Owen Hunt (played by Kevin McKidd) will return for Season 13, reported Deadline. The actor has signed a new deal with ABC to reprise his role on the medical drama.
Pompeo was the first actor to close a deal and reprise her role on "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13, followed by James Pickens Jr., Justin Chambers and Chandra Wilson, who plays Dr. Richard Webber, Dr. Alex Karev and Dr. Miranda Bailey, respectively.
Unfortunately, we will not be seeing anymore of Dr. Callie Torres, played by Sara Ramirez. Her character was involved in a custody battle with ex-wife Dr. Arizona Robbins, played by Jessica Capshaw, which led to the former's move to New York from Seattle.
"Grey's Anatomy" will return for Season 13 this fall on Sept. 22.
