For financial gains, a 61-year-old woman forced her seven-year-old granddaughter to get sexually abused by multiple men. Police in Nigeria arrested Queendaline Udoh and 25-year-old Miracle Sunday Akpan for the sexual abuse of the child. The pedophile and the grandmother have been arrested for their crimes. They remain in police custody awaiting trial.
On Sunday, June 13 the Neighborhood Watch Group of Ugwuabor Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, Nigeria arrested the man and woman after the crime was uncovered. A video of the neighbors parading the culprits surfaced soon after the incident. On Wednesday, June 16 Abakpa Police Division’s Operatives had to intervene and take the accused into their custody.
The case was handed over to the Enugu State Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Department, Emmanuel’s Blog reported. The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department are also investigating the incident.
When Akpan was detained by the Neighborhood Watch Group he revealed the details of the ordeal the child faced. The victim, whose identity remains unknown for her safety, was used as a source of income by Udoh. She used to allow men to sexually abuse the child in exchange for money. Akpan said that he paid the woman 1,500 Naira ($3.6) to sexually exploit the child.
Akpan is originally from Akwa Ibom State but was residing in Enugu State during the incident. Udoh was from Imezi-Owa in Ezeagu, Enugu State. The victim and those who sexually assaulted her were reportedly living in the same neighborhood. Details of the child’s parents have not been shared by the authorities. It is also unclear how the Neighborhood Watch Group came to know of the crime.
He said that he had on multiple occasions had sexual intercourse with the minor after paying the grandmother. The identity of the other men who supposedly also paid the woman for child abuse has not been revealed. Police are investigating the incident and further arrests are expected.
Akpan and Udoh have been arraigned and will remain in police custody, Punch reported. The child has been removed from the family home. She remains under the care of the Enugu State Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Department as the investigation and trial continue.
