A six-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in front of her toddler brother by her uncle and grandfather.
The gruesome crime was reported on April 8 in the city of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, India.
The incident came to light after the child’s mother, who is not named, noticed behavioral changes in her minor daughter. According to the police, the alleged incident happened about 8 days before it was reported.
On Thursday evening, when the girl’s mother came home from work, she noticed that her daughter was behaving in a doubtful manner. The woman confronted the girl, during which she narrated her ordeal.
"The survivor told her mother about the pain she was going through for the past several days. The mother coaxed the child to tell her everything after she realized that she was trying to hide something by washing her clothes," a police officer told The Times of India.
The mother then reported the incident to the police, who registered a case against the suspects.
"The child revealed that around seven to eight days earlier, her maternal uncle took her and her three-year-old brother to a relative’s home on the pretext of giving her samosas. Her maternal grandfather was already there and the duo confined her to a room, where they took turns sexually abusing her in front of the toddler," the officer said.
The accused duo then rewarded the girl Rs 20 and told her not to talk about the incident to anyone, police said. They then bought her some samosas, an Indian snack, before dropping her and her toddler brother at their home.
"Realising that the victim was bleeding, they [both the accused] let her off after giving her a samosa and Rs 20. They also asked her not to reveal anything to anyone. The victim was too scared to reveal anything to her parents and therefore kept quiet," police said.
According to the police, the girl’s 48-year-old maternal grandfather and her 20-year-old uncle were arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The suspects will not be named considering the sensitivity of the crime.
