Gerard Pique talked a lot about his career on "The Wild Project," Thursday. He shared details about his intimate relationship with partner Shakira and his good relationship with Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Pique is considered one of the best defenders of his generation. He moved to Man Utd in 2004 as a 17-year-old. He graduated from Barcelona's academy and transferred to England. Going deep about his decision in the program, Pique said, "At 17 I made the decision to sign for Manchester United, but I never took it for granted that I was going to play for Barcelona. I knew it would be very complicated."
The Barcelona legend tried to delay the move as much as he could. The offer from Man Utd was too good to turn down for a teenager. He even asked Barça to pay him a third of Old Trafford's offer so that he could stay, but Barcelona said no.
The Spanish footballer trained under one of the best football managers, Alex Ferguson. Pique had nothing but praise when asked about Ferguson. He commended his managing skills and motivational figure.
Pique was then asked about Man Utd's top goal-scorer, Ronaldo. The two shared a tense relationship in La Liga during El Clasicos when the two came against one another. However, Pique claimed that they were on good terms.
"Cristiano Ronaldo? I've always had a good relationship with him. When we played together, we met many times with other Portuguese and Brazilian teammates." He also talked about Ronaldo and his love for himself, which has been said several times over by some of his other team members. "Ronaldo used the mirror a lot at Manchester United. When he arrived at training, the first thing he always did was look in the mirror. It was a lot of fun." He also praised Ronaldo's game, his mental balance, as well as his skills even at a very young age.
Pique also spoke about his feelings toward Espanyol, admitting he prefers beating them to Real Madrid. The former Man Utd player previously revealed his delight at having Espanyol back in La Liga.
He claimed that there is nothing comparable to being whistled by their fans — not even sex with Shakira. "I'm happy that Espanyol has been promoted to the first division because that's how we play in their stadium," Pique claimed. "I like to go there, I get whistled at all the time. You laugh and the fans get even madder. There is nothing comparable in the world. I would say it's better than sex. I enjoy it a lot more than playing against Real Madrid."
Shakira and Pique have been dating since 2011 after they met while filming the music video "Waka Waka," considered among the World Cup hits.
