Shakira Reveals Why She Doesn't Want To Marry Gerard Pique

Shakira and soccer superstar Gerard Pique have been together for about a decade now but their setup as a couple remains quite out of the ordinary. Despite sharing two sons and being head over heels for each other, Shakira admits not having plans of marrying Pique.

While appearing on “60 Minutes” on Monday night, the Colombian songstress finally revealed why she flatly refuses to marry her longtime beau. “To tell you the truth, marriage scares the s*** out of me,” Shakira told Bill Whitaker as Pique looked on. “I don’t want him to see me as the wife. I want him to see me as the lover, the girlfriend. I want to keep him on his toes. I want him to think that anything’s possible depending on behavior,” she added.

In a prior interview, Shakira also revealed what she and Pique are like as partners and as parents to their children. “We don’t have a written deal to share the tasks or anything like that, but we both are very involved in parenting and try to sort it out the best we can, we support each other, and we also find a huge help in our families, We don’t know a different way to do it,” she said.

Despite their unique family dynamic, it looks like Pique is not making a fuss. They have been strong and together as long as they have been, they have two lovely sons, a fortune between them, and a beautiful sense of companionship.

Shakira and Pique first met in 2011 when Shakira filmed the music video for her global hit “Waka Waka,” which featured professional soccer players from around the world. Shakira admitted falling in love with Pique pretty quickly the first time she saw him.

“I wasn’t a soccer fan, so I didn’t know who he was,” she shared. “But when I saw the video, I was like, ‘Hmm, that guy’s kind of cute!’ And then someone decided to introduce us,” she added.

Since they were introduced, Shakira and Pique have been inseparable. They are now parents to two sons, 6-year-old Milan and 4-year-old Sasha.
