Galilea Montijo is the premiere host at both Televisa and Univision as they often recur to he to present the highest rated shows like "Pequeños Gigantes" and "Va Por Ti." It was recently rumored that the "Hoy" co-host was leaving the Mexican network after her contract was not renewed and she was already looking for a new job. In a recent interview Montijo is clearing up the gossip around her possible exit from the network that made her a household name.
"The day that happens, that I hope is not until many years from now, I'll be the first to come out and say it," she said in an interview picked by my "De Primera Mano." "Everytime that something happens, I am the first one to show my face, good or bad, but I'm always upfront." Montijo also weighed in on her salary being reported on during these unsafe times saying: "Now-a-days people don't believe all the things that are out there, I also think that with social media you have the opportunity, to debunk, but yes, it's not safe because there are certain people that believe it, but I think that there are more people that don't believe it all."
In June 2016 there were rumors that Galilea had quit the morning show to become the next Sofía Vergara. The publication was tipped of Galilea Montijo's plan to leave "Hoy" from someone close to the production. She asked to leave the show because "it's too small" for her, and she needs to "get to the next level of hosting." Her dream is to move to Miami and become more famous, which is a sentiment she has expressed in the past, so the rumor might not be too off-based from reality. Montijo has been part of the "Hoy" hosting panel for eight years now. At the end of 2015, there were talks that she was leaving the show following a production shake-up. Montijo ended up being part of the revamped show, joining Andrea Legarreta, Raul Araiza and Lisandro.
Rumors of "Hoy" ending its run in México and subsequently in the U.S. on Univision are more rampant than ever. According to "Formula Espectacular" the morning show co-hosted by Andrea Legarreta, Galilea Montijo and Raúl Araiza could be saying farewell in December, after an almost 20-year run that started in 1998. Producer Reynaldo López is reportedly planning the end of the show if Televisa executives dicide to cancel it. Rubio mentioned that "Despierta" with Carlos Loret de Mola could extend its duration on-air to cover the loss of "Hoy". She also said that Araiza wants to focus on his acting, while Montijo has been eyeing a move to Univision's "Despierta América," which is produced in the U.S. If the rumors turn out to be true it would surely be the end of an era.
