Galilea Montijo is a household name in many Latino homes across the United States. The 42-year-old is one of the most prolific presenters who can be seen daily on Univision screens in the daytime show "Hoy."
When she is not hosting the show, she is doing special engagements, like being the face of different brands or hosting award shows for the Spanish-language network. Montijo has a booming career and is looking north to continue growing.
Surprisingly, a new report from a tabloid magazine suggests that Galilea wants to quit her day job and try her luck in becoming the next Sofia Vergara.
The publication was tipped of Galilea Montijo's plan to leave "Hoy" from someone close to the production. She asked to leave the show because "it's too small" for her, and she needs to "get to the next level of hosting."
Her dream is to move to Miami and become more famous, which is a sentiment she has expressed in the past, so the rumor might not be too off-based from reality.
Montijo has been part of the "Hoy" hosting panel for eight years now. At the end of 2015, there were talks that she was leaving the show following a production shake-up. Montijo ended up being part of the revamped show, joining Andrea Legarreta, Raul Araiza and Lisandro.
Additionally, Montijo was announced as host for Season 2 of the Univision reality show "Va Por Ti." Although the talent search is filmed for Latino audiences, the program is produced at the Televisa studios in México.
If Montijo wants to be the next Sofia Vergara as the report alleges, she will have competition from Alicia Machado. The former Miss Universe recently announced that she is moving to Hollywood and had been attached to several unspecified film projects.
A press release even touted Machado as the "new Sofia Vergara." All we know is that there is only one Sofia Vergara and that is enough.
