Earlier this morning, Automotive News reported a major revamp in Subaru's future line-up.
According to the report, Subaru will be adding a compact crossover, known as the XV Crosstrek, by September.
Following the XV Crosstek's release, AutoNews reports that the Subaru Forester crossover will receive a redesign by 2014. Changes to the next model will follow the traditional recipe: the Forester will grow longer, wider, and will also receive a new interior layout with a larger LCD screen for a new infotainment system.
Entering into the market earlier this year, the newly redesigned Subaru Impreza sedan and five-door hatchback probably won't receive its first facelift until 2014 or 2015. More importantly, an Impreza hybrid based on Toyota technology may be in the cards. If confirmed, this will mean that the Subaru Impreza will be the industry first compact hybrid vehicle with all-wheel-drive. The redesigned Impreza will be shortly followed by the WRX and STI performance variants as well.
Impreza's bigger brother, the Legacy midsize sedan and Outback wagon, will enjoy a scheduled mid-life cycle facelift for 2015 as well.
Anchoring the larger end of Subaru's SUV line-up, the aging Tribeca mid-size crossover will be discontinued. However, Subaru might introduce another seven-seat SUV with an all-new moniker that will be based on the next-generation Toyota Highlander.
Last, but certainly not least, reports have announced that the Subaru BRZ lightweight sports coupe will introduce a new convertible variant for the 2014 model year. A facelift is also expected for 2016. Last month, we reported that Scion had axed its FR-S convertible project due to high production costs that risk placing the Scion too far upmarket.
