It's National Pretzel Day and we've compiled a roundup of all the places celebrating and offering free pretzels!
The day (April 26) was declared in 1983 by Pennsylvania U.S. Representative Robert S. Walker. And rightfully so: According to Snyder's, the average U.S. citizen consumes 2 pounds of pretzels per year and $1 billion worth of pretzels are sold annually in the U.S.
Another fun fact about pretzels, which date back to 610 A.D: 80 percent of pretzels consumed by Americans are made in Pennsylvania.
Here is when and where you can get free pretzels today:
Pretzel Maker: This franchise is asking customers to tell a funny joke in order to get a free pretzel. And if you can't think of a joke and don't want to google a pretzel joke, then simply say "National Pretzel Day" and you'll still be able to get one for free at participating stores.
Snyder's of Hanover: All the locations of Snyder's will be handing out samples of three flavors in their pretzel cart: honey mustard & onion, hot buffalo wing and bacon cheddar.
Auntie Anne's: Select locations are offering $1 pretzels from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The pretzel company also offers discounts and coupons if you sign up for their pretzel perks program.
Philly Pretzel Factory: The Philly Pretzel Factory will be giving out a free soft pretzel at any of their locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida and Colorado.
