Footage of NFL player Marshawn Lynch’s DUI arrest early last week in Las Vegas was released Thursday by authorities. Police bodycam footage captured the running back sitting in the driver’s seat of a Shelby GT500, with the car missing a tire on the driver’s side. The officers on the scene spoke to Lynch while he was seated in a stupor with the driver’s door open before pulling him out and arresting him.
While the football player was still in the vehicle seemingly nodding off, he repeatedly inquired the officers what the problem was, stating that he wasn’t driving. Lynch appeared curious as to why they were questioning him and as several minutes went by with repeated requests for him to exit the vehicle, one officer grabs his hoodie and dragged him out. He was handcuffed on the street and arrested on charges of “driving under influence”.
According to Fox News, an officer remarked that Lynch reeked of alcohol as he was being handcuffed. When the cops told him he was being arrested, the player replied saying “no problem”.
Meanwhile, a second bodycam footage shows Lynch laying back in the driver’s seat supposedly half-asleep when the officer was questioning him. The officer asked if he knew where he was, who he was and if the vehicle belonged to him. The player shook his head in reaction and as the officer asked if he had stolen the vehicle, Lynch nodded and smiled in reply. Reports state the vehicle Lynch was driving had the passenger wheel and rim nearly detached when police found Lynch. They found him asleep in the driver’s seat with the door wide open and was also missing a shoe.
Cops followed the skid marks on the road and determined that the vehicle rammed into a sidewalk. After the results of his alcohol blood tests were released, he was determined to be drunk and now faces DUI charges. Had he not gone out of the vehicle he would also be charged with obstructing an investigation. The ex-NFL star’s bail was set at $3,381.However, Lynch was not charged with theft and is scheduled for a court hearing in December. Prior to this, he was also arrested in 2012 on similar charges.
